Person-Centred Counselling

I am primarily a Person-Centred therapist. Counselling gives the opportunity and time to talk through whatever is troubling you without having to worry about being judged or receiving unwanted advice. One-to-one sessions are not only designed to help you work through problems but also to build up your mental resilience and your ability to cope.

To get the best from counselling, sessions are usually on a weekly basis, in a safe, supportive and relaxed atmosphere where you can explore any feelings and difficulties you may be experiencing.

You are in the driving seat and are free to talk about anything that you feel is important to you at the time. We work at a pace you feel comfortable with and have an informal review of aims and progress every 6 sessions.

Often people choose a professional counsellor as it allows an opportunity to talk through difficulties with someone who is not emotionally close. In addition to gaining insight into your own world, you may also get a better understanding of why other people say and act in the way they do.

Tailor-made therapy for you

An aim of counselling therapy is to get a full understanding of your present position. While Person-Centred counselling is not about reducing a client's situation to a list of problems, you may find it useful to know that counselling can be beneficial over a range of issues such as:

  • Improving self-esteem

  • Dealing with anxiety

  • Building confidence

  • Men's issues

  • Mental health

  • Managing depression

  • Guilt

  • Emotional well being

  • Counselling for men

  • Life changes

  • Loss

  • Sexuality

  • Better understanding of self

  • Embarrassment

  • Shame

  • Loneliness

  • Relationships

  • Relationship counselling

  • Work-life

  • Stress

  • Overcoming stage fright

  • Homelife

  • Trauma

  • Social isolation

  • Negative thoughts

  • Reducing self-imposed limitations to enable a more meaningful life

  • Loss of identity

Of course, the way we are feeling may not fit neatly into one category. Whatever the reason you may consider counselling, Person-Centred therapy is about finding the right way forward for you - tailored to your unique needs and situation.

Unlocking More Potential

I have been inspired to add this section to my website after watching the snooker world cup and seeing the worlds best players being 'in the zone' and 'out of the zone'. I've been noticing not only the variation in performance and results, but the variation of enjoyment of the competitors.

I have in mind musicians, performers, creatives, competitors, sports men and women - people who have some part of their lives on stage or in the public eye. I was a professional musician for 17 years and have worked extensively on my own issues around stage fright/performance anxiety.  I appreciate that many of us who get on a stage will have the sensitivity and nuance to be good at what we do. This same sensitivity can make us more susceptible to the judgments of ourselves and others.

There is a whole range of possible reactions to being in the limelight, and these may be intensely personal and unique to each one of us.  I know from personal experience that it is possible to make significant improvement to our performance on stage and significant improvement of how we experience being on stage.  If you would like to know more I would be happy to discuss this with you.
